Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle is one of the largest and most historical castles in Scotland. It sits high on a  intrusive crag, and is part of the castles geological formation. It has three sides giving them a strong defense. Most of the buildings date from the 15th & 16th century, there are a few structures from the 14th century. This castle was one of the most used for the Royal residence. A place of safety, but it served as a palace for the Royals as well. Several Kings and Queens have been crowned at Stirling, including, Mary, Queen of Scots in 1542. There have been at least 8 sieges of Stirling Castle with the last being in 1756 when Charles Edward Louis John Sylvester Maria Casimir Stuart aka “Bonnie Prince Charlie” tried to take the castle, but failed in his efforts.

When you view the Photo "On The Brinks",

I hope you get the feeling of excitement, just as if you are on

the brinks of something great is about to happen.

That is how it makes me feel.

On the Brinks

My family was filled with excitement as we travelled through Stirling Scotland, on our way to see friends. The family all bundled in the back of the van with cozy blankets all cuddled together.

The whispers of winter are felt in the breeze that blows across the sky. The fog was heavy and part of the journey we had great difficulty in seeing.

As the sun broke through and the fog began to separate, the castle looked as though it was receiving a hug from heaven. The fog just wrapped around the castle and set it up a little higher in the sky.

As I stepped out of the vehicle to capture the beautiful scene, I was reminded of the love of Jesus and how He wraps His arms around us as we stand as a fortress to battle this old world and the troubles that surround us.

Many times over the last few years I have been reminded that although beautiful, there will be NO castles in heaven. Castles are a place of defense and a fortress for battle, there will be no wars, no fighting and no reason for a fortress. There will be mansions, a place of rest and we will all be safe and surrounded by the love of God.
